Canadian Eats: Exploring Canadian Foods in the Glebe

By on June 19, 2017

Canadian Eats is an event in which local restaurants, bakeries and food shops showcase Canada’s culinary scene for its 150th anniversary.

Supporting local initiatives is something that is very important to me, especially when great tasting cuisine is at the forefront.

Restaurants in the Glebe will be putting Canada on a plate during Canadian Eats, an exciting new signature event aimed at capturing the spirit of Canadian cuisine. Canadian Eats will be running until Canada Day, which is plenty of time to take the opportunity to taste a range of dishes inspired by Canada.

Andrew Peck, Executive Director of the Glebe Business Improvement Area is proud to be supporting this new initiative as the Glebe area has a plethora of noteworthy restaurants and food providers that deserve to be recognized.

“Canadian Eats is designed to be a culinary adventure that sparks a larger conversation about what our national cuisine is all about. At the same time, we can promote the many talented chefs, farmers, producers, merchants and restaurateurs in our area that bring this food to life.”

“We believe this event is a wonderful way to celebrate being Canadian in the weeks leading up to Canada Day and during our 150th year!” – Andrew Peck, Executive Director of the Glebe Business Improvement Area

The mission for Canadian Eats: provide customers with dishes that are influenced by the Canadian spirit and to put Canada on a plate!

The menu will feature food and drink that embodies the Canadian experience and provides insight into how ingredients and life in our country has helped shape what we create, consume and savour. Food fans will discover the classics we all love, while seeing how our regions, diversity, history, and ingredients have lent themselves to new variations on the recipes we’ve come to appreciate from other places.

The CANADIAN EATS menu will offer a wide range of delicious options and price points, creating an inclusive selection of fare for everyone. Glebe grocers, cafés, bakeries, food shops and the Ottawa Farmer’s Market will also be part of the picnic in their own way.

The many dishes, stories, recipes, and promotions will be shared online (www.canadianeats.ca) throughout the initiative with the hope of generating even more conversation around what makes our food Canadian. The Glebe BIA aims to develop CANADIAN EATS into an annual event that continues to further our understanding of what our national cuisine is all about.

  • Amazing time tasting the various ages of balsamic vinegars at Vini & Distillati Angelo Delea winery. They take the time to not only educate you about their products, but also educate your taste buds. The cloth placed on top of the barrel is to start the evaporatation process while preventing insects from coming into contact with it. Tasting various cheeses, fruits and cured meats while sampling their aged balsamic vinegars was incredible. #foodie #foodporn #foodblogger #nomnom #travel #travelblogger #luxurytravel #tasting #balsamicvinegar #presstrip #inlovewithswitzerland #epicpresstrip #lovemyjob

  • I’ve had time to reflect on this incredible man’s passing as I am sure most of you have heard by now. Anthony Bourdain was by all accounts an extraordinary individual that many chefs, foodies and travel lovers admired and looked up to. What drew me the most to this remarkable man was his fearless and unfiltered approach to life and the experiences that were put in his path. No apologies, no excuses, he just told his story and his opinion HIS way. Amazing! His appreciation of worldly traditional cuisines and discovering new dishes has been a huge source of inspiration for me. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but much like thousands of others worldwide, his impact on us is real and his passion for discovery in food and travel will remain with us forever. Rest In Peace Chef! #anthonybourdain #gonetoosoon #amazingperson #inspiration #foodie #travelblogger #foodblogger #storyteller #discoverer #fearless #unfiltered #mentor
